Veterinarian, Owner

My interest in veterinary medicine stems from my fondest childhood memories, when my parents moved to a small farm in Idaho. It wasn’t a large piece of land, but it was one that required patience and hard work. Even though I was young, I was old enough to help Dad with the field plowing and chores with the animals. We had horses and cattle, dogs, cats and chickens. I participated in 4-H, and raised steers for sale in that program.

I attended the University of Idaho and earned my B.S. in Zoology. I then transferred to Washington State University where I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1971. After graduating, I came to Modesto to work at Modesto Veterinary Hospital. I met my wife Linda here, and we have raised our family in Modesto since that time.

I am a member of the American Animal Hospital Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, California Veterinary Medical Association and the Northern San Joaquin Veterinary Medical Association. I am on the Board of the Veterinary Emergency Clinic Inc., and a past member of the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital External Advisory Board.

It is a part of our interest to help young people find out if veterinary medicine should be a career and have hired part-time helpers, and volunteers, from local high schools and colleges.

Outside the clinic, I enjoy backpacking, camping in the Sierras, being on a tractor, and being grandpa.

I have been practicing veterinary medicine in Modesto since graduating from the University of California at Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. I currently live in Modesto with a menagerie of animals from horses, dogs, and cats to turkeys, goats, and chickens. In my free time, I love to ride horses in the mountains, boat and fish. I spent a number of years volunteering for Alley Cat Guardians to help reduce the pet overpopulation. “Beyond just loving animals, they need a voice of reason and compassion. I hope that I am that voice.”

I grew up in upstate New York, with a large number of household pets – namely cats, dogs, and various gerbils, guinea pigs and domestic rats. My mother informed me that my first sentence was “Llama eat cracker,” so evidently I have always been interested in animals. After graduating from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001, I practiced in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, until my husband (who is a dairy vet) and I moved to California. Here I am a member of the board of the Nothern San Joaquin Veterinary Medical Association, among other veterinary professional organizations, and am also a member of the Stanislaus County Animal Advisory board.

In my free time, I also enjoy biking, hiking, reading, cooking, and am working on a master’s in public health. I also love living within driving distance of the ocean, which is a first for me. My husband and I are the companions of two grey cats and of a small brown dog, who clearly beleives that “a cat is a puzzle for which there is no solution.”
