I want to say a special thanks to all the Doctors and staff at Standiford Vet for helping my dog Minnie. Minnie suddenly became ill one day, and Dr. Greer took excellent care of her. Without your help we don’t know what we would do without her! She isn’t just a pet, she is a part of our family, thank you again for your help and compassion.

Bravery Award – Magic

Magic came to us as a very sick dog. It was the way that she kept up her spirits and fought to live with such determination that struck a chord within me. As she improved, one of my favorite activities to do with her was helping regain her strength in her legs by encouraging her to walk short distances within the hospital. Being a daddy’s girl, when she had recovered enough to go home, it was easy to see why she had wanted to live so badly. I am proud to see Magic’s continued progress, will always remember her brave soul, and her exemplary will to overcome adversity. –Carli

I had met Magic before her major illness. Her wonderful attitude is the reason why I got my rough coated Collie, Blue. When she became ill, she became my special project. Since then, I am amazed at the turnaround she has made. It really is wonderful to see her recover and progress. Great job, Magic! I am proud of you, and keep up the good work. – Deanna

Bravery Award – Hugo

I have had Hugo for over eleven years. He is the best cuddle companion anyone could ask for. If I am feeling down, I can always count on his purr to cheer me up.
When I thought that I would lose him, my heart broke in two. Thanks to the wonderful staff here at, Standiford Veterinary, I have my kitty back home where he belongs.

Bravery Award – Poncho

Poncho Mc Cabe is a dog that exemplifies a different kind of bravery: resilience. Due to unfortunate circumstances in Poncho’s family, he has had to board with us for an extended period of time. Yet, for all the changes as of recent, he still is as happy as can be. Since Poncho’s mom is unable to make her comments for her beloved boy, two of our technicians, who have the closest relationship with him, would like to assume the honor and dedicate this award of bravery to him for the month of April with the following:

Poncho Mc Cabe is one of the few boarders here long enough for us to develop a strong, lasting connection with. His ears always perk up, every time someone enters the room, and the spring in his step always puts a big smile on my face. –Danielle Roth

How do you spell “sweet”? P-O-N-C-H-O. His expressive bark and the cute way that he walks are just some of the things that I like about Poncho’s personality. I know that he misses his mom, but he is doing well and a joy to have under our care. -Kirstien Daily

Bravery Award – Ruger

Ruger is undeniably one of the most handsome dogs we have owned. He has a “happy go lucky” attitude, and he quickly received the nick name (since we never call our dogs by their given name unless they’re in trouble) “Lover Boy”.

He received a lot of attention at the dog shows and obtained his AKC Championship title in no time.

Ruger’s illness came on very quickly. There were several times during the weeks of testing that we thought we were going to have to say good-bye.

Thanks to the patience, understanding, support, care and perseverance of the great Doctors and Staff at Standiford Veterinary Center, Ruger is still with us and continues to make progress toward what we hope is to be a full recovery.

Bravery Award – Shandy

He was born on April 30, 1995. From the time he was a puppy, he always wanted only to please and love us. I, his mommy, taught him to sing with me and to wipe his feet when he comes in from the rain. He is always by my side during the day and he sits on his dad’s and my lap in the evenings.

About four years ago, he started to have serious health problems. Right before this Christmas, we thought we would lose him. But thanks to Dr. Lattig and Dr. Greer, he is still here. They continue to work at keeping him with us, and for this, we will forever be grateful!

This was our best Christmas ever, not for the gifts under the tree, but for the gift of having our precious Shandy still with us. As I held him on my lap on Christmas Eve, he looked up at me, as if to say, “Don’t give up on me just yet; I’m not ready to say ‘good-bye’!”

So we continue the good fight, and maybe, he will make it to his birthday in April. He will be fifteen years old!!!

We love you, our Shandy boy!

Bravery Award – Jake

Jake is a 13 year old Labrador retriever that has had a number of issues over the years. The worst of which were ear infections. Although many treatments, pills and ointments, were effective or helpful for a time, the ear infections continued to return – for over 5 years. Finally, even a combination of pills, drops, and ointment had little effect. He was obviously in discomfort, shaking his head almost constantly and moping around much of the time. It became necessary to have his ear canals removed (ablated). Dr Lattig and Dr Greer were extremely helpful and compassionate over the years and especially through Jake’s operation.

I’m happy to report that the operation when remarkably well and Jake healed up quickly. His energy level improved dramatically. As soon as he got his collar off, he was anxious to play catch again, one of his previously favorite activities. Obviously, he doesn’t hear well, but he does seem to hear loud noises like clapping your hands. Jake, like most dogs I guess, is extremely loyal and affectionate, unbelieveably smart, and an absolute joy to have around. We are so lucky to have him, and would like to nominate him for the Standiford Veterinary Center BRAVERY AWARD.
