What is the difference between pet wellness plans and pet insurance?
A pet wellness plan is designed to cover the yearly preventative care for your pet, including planned or expected needs such as flea and heartworm preventive, rabies vaccine, and annual wellness visits with your veterinarian. On the other hand, pet insurance protects your pet from unexpected needs such as accidents or illnesses. Both types of plans are important for ensuring your pet receives comprehensive care.
Why do I need both insurance and wellness plans?
When you have both a wellness plan and an insurance plan, you give your pet access to all the care they need. It makes caring for your pet easier and more stress-free. A comprehensive approach to your pet's health includes both preventive care and protection against unforeseen medical issues. Let’s discuss wellness plans in more depth. Basically, we’ve bundled or paired your pet’s annual needs, discounted them, and made them even easier to manage by breaking them up into affordable monthly installments.
What is included in a wellness plan?
A wellness plan typically includes two exams with a veterinarian, evaluating your pet's physical health, checking for lumps and bumps, listening to their heart and lungs, looking in their mouth, ears, and eyes, ensuring they're pain-free and at an appropriate weight, and addressing any other concerns you might have. The plan also provides annual vaccines based on your pet's lifestyle and age, a comprehensive health assessment, which includes testing their liver, kidney, pancreatic, and thyroid functions. There’s also a CBC included in the case of any inflammation or infection.
This blood work also allows us to diagnose certain types of cancer in its early stages. A urine sample is also included and sent to the lab to ensure they don’t have any infections and their kidney function is great. An intestinal parasite screen is sent out, as one in six pets that comes through our hospital doors has some form of intestinal parasites, which can have serious consequences and spread to other pets and even people. We are further adamant about annual heartworm tests. Unfortunately, heartworm disease is very serious and if we don’t diagnose and treat it, it can be fatal. Once we receive the lab results, we send out 12 months of heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives, or an alternative option based on your pet's needs and age.
How much does a wellness plan cost?
Most wellness plans are quite affordable, running about $2 a day. These plans are designed to bundle your pet's yearly needs, offer a discount on these services, and break the cost into manageable monthly installments.
Preventative care and early detection plans are created with the mission to improve and lengthen the quality of time you have with your pet. By addressing potential health issues before they become serious, you can ensure your pet remains healthy and happy for as long as possible. These plans also help you catch illnesses and diseases early, leading to more effective treatment and better outcomes for your pet. Therefore, I encourage you to visit our website or talk to a team member to learn more about and enroll in our premier wellness plans.
